20 Cash for Clunkers Down ... Many More to Go

Not only is the governments CARS program (aka Cash-for-Clunkers) up and running, it now has the official rules written and posted. The rule is a short 136 page document that we have read and re-read at our dealerships.

In any case we have now had 20 customers take advantage of the program and we expect many more to do so over the next several weeks. We have completed the registration process with the NHTSA who is administering the program and are all ready to go.

If you have questions about the program head over to CARS.gov or FuelEconomy.gov. If you'd like to check out our new inventory in Clinton, IA head over here. If you'd like to check out our new inventory in Iowa City, IA, head over here.

Also - both dealership web sites are due for a facelift in the next two weeks so stay tuned!

Waiting is the hardest part

Tom Petty (and the Heartbreakers) may have said it best in their song "Waiting is the hardest part." I'm not sure if they were talking about the government's new Car Allowance Rebate System though...

Tomorrow the rules for the CARS program - aka cash-for-clunkers or cash-for-guzzlers - are to be finalized. McEleney Autoplex has 10 cars eligible for the program that will be delivered tomorrow. Our sister store, McEleney Autocenter, has 7 at last count.

To be honest the response to this new government program has been stronger than we first thought. We are looking forward to selling several more cars that qualify before that $1 Billion pool of cash runs out.

Here is an example of what one of our customers managed via the program...

Sale Price of Hyundai Accent : $13,500
Rebates (good to July 31): $1,500
Clunker Allowance: $4,500
New Price Only: $7,500

We are talking $7,500 for a brand new car with air and a radio AND a 5 year / 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty plus a 10 year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

If you think you may be in a similar position please call us to see if your car qualifies!

Pre-Production Chevy Volt - An Introduction

I just found a GM video of the pre-production Chevy Volt over at their FastLane Blog.

The car looks very cool. I noticed the steering wheel looks an awful lot like the wheel in the 2010 Camaro and 2010 Equinox. Well done Chevy!
